TIEN SHAN GLACIER THAWING COULD CAUSE NATURAL CALAMITY
The intensive thawing in Tien Shan glacier for the coming 10-15 years can double the volume of water in local mountain rivers. It was reported by director of Geographic Institute of Kazakhstan I. Blagoveshenskiy. In scholar’s opinion, the reason lies in global warming. And it is, chiefly, connected to combustion of coal and oil products in large quantities.
I. Blagoveshenskiy said: “If this issue is not a focus of attention, piedmont sown areas will face the threat of extirpation. We must implement glaciers research to keep the situation under control”
