UN Security Council condemns terrorist attack on school bus in Pakistan

Members of the UN Security Council have condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack on a school bus in Khuzdar, Balochistan province, Pakistan. The reprehensible act resulted in the tragic loss of at least six Pakistani nationals, including four schoolchildren, and injured 53 others—39 of them children.
The Security Council members expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the Government and people of Pakistan. They also wished a speedy and full recovery to those injured.
The Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
They emphasized the need to hold the perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these heinous acts accountable and bring them to justice. The members urged all states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of Pakistan in this regard.
Reiterating that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable—regardless of their motivation, location, timing, or perpetrators—the Security Council reaffirmed the need for all states to combat threats to international peace and security posed by terrorist acts. This should be done by all means, in accordance with the UN Charter and other international legal obligations, including international human rights law, refugee law, and humanitarian law.
