U.S. Ambassador visits Azerbaijan Press Council
Baku, September 30 (AZERTAC). U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar has today visited the Azerbaijan Press Council.
The Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov briefed the Ambassador on the activity and plans of the organization.
Speaking of the loyalty of the structure of the Council, Mr. Amashov also informed Morningstar on the aspects of the upcoming presidential election and participation of the media in the process.
He also added that additional representatives from the Interior Ministry were involved in the Permanent Commission of the Press Council on the resolution of problems between the media and government agencies. Stressing that one of the priorities of the Press Council is to ensure the safety of journalists during large scale events, Amashov said that a hotline was created for quick settlement of the emerging problems.
Mr. Morningstar spoke on the essentiality of the election process for all societies, stressing dynamic activity of press in this.
The Ambassador underlined the civil society organizations’ inevitable role in the election processes.
They also discussed issues of further exchange of experience between U.S. and Azerbaijani press services.
