US EMBASSY ARRANGES RECEPTION ON INDEPENDENCE DAY
The United States embassy in Baku arranged July 3 an official reception on the occasion of 231st anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence.
US ambassador Ann Derse described relations between the United States and Azerbaijan as those of strategic partnership.
The diplomat also said her country supports political and economical reforms implemented in Azerbaijan. She praised the country for its active role in ensuring global security and combating terrorism.
Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament Ogtay Asadov congratulated the American people on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev on the Independence Day and wished peace and stability to the country.
The speaker noted the United States was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan’s independence. He pointed out that President Ilham Aliyev’s 2006 visit to the United States marked a new level of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Asadov underlined the contribution of Azerbaijan as a member of international anti-terror coalition to ensuring peace and security in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq.
He also mentioned successful cooperation between the two countries within international organizations and US efforts towards settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh on the basis of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Present at the reception were members of the Millis Majlis, ministers, foreign ambassadors, representatives of mass media and the public.
