US GOVERNMENT TO ALLOCATE $800 THOUSAND FOR MAINTENANCE OF BORDERS
As stated, the meeting was of familiarization character and speaking of the US-Azerbaijan relations, Mr. Rino Harnish congratulated the minister with his re-appointment, introduced to him Mr. Melton, high official of customs department in US, and engaged in development of customs cooperation in the Caucasus and Central Asia.
The Ambassador said that last week he has visited the customs checkpoints in the south regions of Country, familiarized with customs equipments and professional level of the customs staff there.
Noting that the United States Government has allocated 800 thousand USD in 2004 for maintenance of the borders of Azerbaijan, the Ambassador said that the US Customs department stands ready to cooperate with the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.
Speaking of the US-Azerbaijan relations, chairman of the customs committee of Azerbaijan colonel-general Kamaladdin Heydarov said the bilateral relations have acquired a high level after the 11 September events and that these links should be further developed.
The parties exchanged a number of other issues of mutual interest.
