USA AND AZERBAIJAN SUCCESSFULLY COOPERATE IN ENERGY FIELD
Baku, June 6 (AZERTAC). President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Rovneg Abdullayev met Tuesday with a US delegation headed by Deputy Secretary of Commerce David Sampson, who arrived in Baku to participate in the 14th international oil, gas, petroleum refining and chemistry exhibition and conference. Briefing the delegation on the Azerbaijan`s achievements in the oil and gas industry, the SOCAR President said that the U.S. Government has always supported large-scale projects in Azerbaijan.
Deputy Secretary of Commerce stressed that oil and gas sector constitutes the basis for the economic cooperation between the two countries. The US official pointed out that the commissioning of the Baku- Tbilisi -Ceyhan oil and Southern- Caucasian gas pipelines as well as beginning of gas production in the ``Shah Deniz`` field is very important for the Europe`s energy security. He was curious about the intergovernmental agreement on transportation of the Kazakh oil via the BTC.
SOCAR president said Azerbaijan is interested in shipping Caspian energy resources to Europe. According to him, the relevant infrastructure is being created to transport oil and gas from the Central Asia via Azerbaijan to Europe.
The sides also discussed cleaning of oil-polluted lands in the Absheron peninsular and studied the opportunities for transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe.
