Vast majority of Azerbaijan’s population supports President Ilham Aliyev
Baku, September 4 (AZERTAC). The results of a nationwide public-opinion poll conducted by "Rey" Monitoring Center have shown that the vast majority of Azerbaijan's population supports President Ilham Aliyev.
If the presidential elections were held in Azerbaijan next Sunday, the vast majority of respondents, who would go to the election stations (84.7 percent) would have voted for the incumbent President.
Answering the question about "Whether Ilham Aliyev expresses the interests of people like you?", about 82 percent of the respondents said "yes" (completely or partially), 6 percent - "no", and 5 percent - "rather no, than yes". The rest remained undecided.
The survey also showed that "if presidential elections were held next Sunday", the majority of respondents (62 percent) unequivocally would have taken part in them.
Another 20 percent chose the "rather yes, than not" answer, while other 13 percent of respondents would have deviated from voting. The remaining 5 percent found difficulty in replying.
The respondents were also asked about the processes in the opposition camp. Interviewers were asked whether they heard that the oppositional 'National Council' has proposed its reserve candidate for the presidential election. According to the survey, the vast majority of the respondents - 90.4 percent - heard about the 'reserve candidate' for the first time. Only 9.6 percent of respondents were aware of this issue (nearly 60 percent of those are accounted for Baku). But at the same time, only 58.3 percent of them were able to name the candidate, while 41.7 percent admitted that they did not know who he was.
The figures show that all the oppositional 'nominees', including those, who a priori will not be included in the list of candidates, managed to receive 1.5 percent of votes.
The report is based on the results of 'omnibus' type of public opinion survey held on August 26-30, 2013. The survey, during which 1,535 people of age of 18 and over were polled, was carried out by the place of residence by means of 'face-to-face' standardized method. Its inaccuracy is 3 percent.
The polling based on random sampling, which proportionally reflected the social stratification and age-sex structure of the population, covered 36 settlements in 10 socio-economic zones of Azerbaijan.
