VNA launches fundraising campaign to support flood victims

The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) on November 24 launched a fundraising campaign to support people in the central region in overcoming the consequences of severe flooding, responding to the call from the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.
The launching ceremony was held in person at the VNA headquarters in Hanoi and online with the agency’s regional information centres in the central – Central Highlands and southern regions, as well as its ITAXA printing company.
At the event, the VNA Party Committee and leadership called on all officials, public employees, and workers across the sector to make practical contributions in a spirit of solidarity and responsibility, thus joining hands with the Party and the State to support affected people so that they can soon overcome difficulties and stabilise their lives.
The donation campaign will run until November 27, with donations accepted directly or via bank transfer.
In recent days, historic flooding has caused severe damage in the provinces of Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, and several other localities.
According to preliminary statistics, the floods have left 102 people dead or missing; 1,154 houses damaged, with up to 186,000 houses inundated at the peak; more than 80,000 hectares of rice and other crops destroyed; over 3.2 million head of livestock and poultry killed or swept away; 24 sections of national highways eroded or blocked by landslides; railway operations through Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa suspended; and numerous transportation, irrigation, education, and healthcare infrastructure facilities severely affected.
The total preliminary damage is estimated at 9.035 trillion VND (342.5 million USD).
