Vugar Hashimov memorial closes in Shamkir
Shamkir, May 1 (AZERTAC). A closing ceremony of the international Vugar Hashimov memorial tournament has been held in the Azerbaijani city of Shamkir.
Speaking to the ceremony, vice-presidents of Azerbaijan Chess Federation Mahir Mammadov and Faig Hasanov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Synergy Group Riad Huseynov praised the organization of the tournament.
They spoke of Vugar Hashimov`s achievements, hailing his role in improving Azerbaijan`s international image.
Norwegian Magnus Carlsen won the Group A of the tournament, while Ukrainian Pavel Elyanov finished first in the Group B.
The tournament, organized by Synergy Group, was held under the "State Program on development of chess in Azerbaijan in 2009-2014".
Prize money of the Group A was 100,000 euros, while the prize fund for the Group B was 30,000 euros.
