WORKING GROUP ON HUMAN RIGHTS HOLDS MEETING
On December 29, the Working group consisting of representatives of NGOs dealing with human rights issues and those of Azerbaijani authorities held a meeting to sum up its work in 2007.
Members of the Working group expressed their gratitude to President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for signing an amnesty decree on December 28, 2007 and for taking into account proposals advanced by human rights organizations. They also highly praised the attention the President has been paying to activities of the Working group.
The human rights organizations expressed hope that President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, within his constitutional authority, will continue to support the Working group`s activities and proposals towards human rights protection.
The representatives of the human rights organizations and those of the government of Azerbaijan declared that constructive work of the Working group will contribute to development of civil society and to solving many issues related to human rights protection in Azerbaijan, and that this work will intensify in 2008.
