28TH FALL SESSION OF PABSEC STARTED IN BAKU
Opening the session, President of General Assembly, Chairman of Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Republic Ogtay Asadov wished participants of session fruitful work and successes. Chairman of Azerbaijan Parliament has expressed hope, that the discussions held at session and the proposals and recommendations would promote improvement of activity of the Organization.
The President expressed satisfaction in connection with participation of the representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Parliamentary Assembly of Organization of the Islamic Conference and other international structures, diplomatic corps and other visitors.
In his introductory speech, Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament told: “Now we live in the world where processes of regional integration have accepted wide scope. Existing in various corners of Globe many political, economic, ecological and other problems cannot be solved without consolidation of efforts of the countries.
The role of Black Sea region - being on a junction of various civilizations - in world politics has increased in the beginning of 21st century. With feeling of satisfaction I should note, that economic integration in the frame of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation opens a way to adjustment of strong political relations among our countries, to solution of their common problems, promote effective use of rich natural resources, transport opportunities and intellectual potential of region, Ogtay Asadov noted.
Having reminded about realization in region of the important economic projects closely connecting Europe with Asia and the North with the South, Mr. Asadov said: “The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline transporting the Caspian oil onto the world markets, is already launched. The day is not far away when the other power and transport projects will be realized. We wish that these projects, being a fruit of successful cooperation of BSEC member states, had benefited all countries and peoples of region.
The President with feeling of regret noted: “A number of the conflicts now became a greater obstacle in the way of development of all region, and also represents serious threat for international peace and safety. We are assured, that these conflicts including the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, will be shortly solved on the basis of the universally accepted norms and principles of international law, in particular, on the basis of the main principle - inviolability of borders and territorial integrity of the states. Transformation of our region into a zone of peace and stability meets interests of all people living here“.
