Alinja Castle - heroic symbol of Azerbaijani people
Baku, April 5, AZERTAC
The Alinja Castle is famous for being one of the heroic symbols of the Azerbaijani people. The invincible fortress Alinja-gala reflects the ancient history and culture of Azerbaijani people. The unconquerable fortress, which has been preserved through the centuries, now revives in its original form as the ongoing restoration, which lasted for two years, is approaching its final stage.
In ancient sources Alinja-gala was known as "Erindzhik", "Alandzhik", "Alyndzha" and under several other names. The first mentions date back to sixth century sources. The oldest of them is Kitabi Dada Qorqud epos. For those, who wants to touch the ancient history, to feel the spirit of courage and invincibility, Alinja-gala fortress is one of the best places to visit.
The massive walls of the citadel were built of burnt bricks and large stones. During the Atabeys state, water tanks and fortress towers were built to strengthen the defense in Alinjagala. The steep slope of the rock and the powerful walls of the fortress made it an impregnable defensive fortification for a long time. In the years 1387-1401 Alinja resisted the forces of Emir Timur for 14 years.
