® Digital transformation and simulation technologies discussed in Baku

On February 17, the conference “Ansys: Digital Engineering and Innovation Solutions in Azerbaijan” was held at the Landmark Hotel in Baku. The event was organized by AZEL Systems, a leading system integrator in Azerbaijan, in collaboration with Ansys part of Synopsys, a global provider of engineering simulation software used across industries such as transportation, telecommunications, aviation and energy to optimize designs, enhance safety and drive innovation. The conference also contributed to strengthening technological cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States, highlighting the strategic importance of digital engineering solutions in bilateral relations.

Opening the conference, Igor Yakovenko, General Director of AZEL Systems, noted that the company specializes in the implementation of information technology and digitalization technology. He highlighted the benefits of operating engineering simulation solutions and emphasized the importance of using only licensed software, to mitigate design risks, accelerate digital transformation and maintain better cost control. He additionally noted that such initiatives play a key role in advancing Azerbaijan’s digital economy and fostering international technology partnerships.

Following this, Jim Chiamardas, Vice President at Ansys, part of Synopsys (NASDAQ: SNPS), provided a brief overview of the company’s solutions across various industries, with particular focus on the value and benefits these technologies can bring to the oil and gas sector. He also emphasized that Ansys is focused on expanding its presence in the EMEA region, including Azerbaijan, as part of its long-term growth strategy.

The next speaker was Khudayat Hasanli, Chief of Staff of the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, who outlined the importance of ensuring legal protection of intellectual property in the context of software use. He emphasized that both the Agency and the government see the protection of intellectual property rights as an important policy priority. He further noted that in the coming years, it is essential to establish clear copyright frameworks for artificial intelligence-generated products.

The conference continued with a technical session. Pavel Bruk, Regional Sales Director Central Asia and CIS, at Ansys, part of Synopsys (NASDAQ: SNPS) delivered a detailed presentation about the technical capabilities of Ansys solutions, highlighting how they address various engineering challenges and support cost optimization. He outlined the functionalities of Ansys software for digital engineering and shared practical examples of their application across different industries around the world. In addition, he emphasized the key areas where artificial intelligence (AI) is integrated into Ansys solutions, noting that strategic investment today can significantly accelerate digital transformation for Azerbaijani companies. He also highlighted that advanced simulation technologies can significantly reduce product development cycles, particularly in high-tech industries.

Sakhavat Amirbayli, Lecturer at Department of Aerospace Devices in the AZAL CJSC National Aviation Academy, then shared the Academy’s practical experience in successfully implementing Ansys solutions. He highlighted that the Ansys simulation platform is extensively used in undergraduate and graduate aerospace engineering education to support advanced analysis, modelling and design of aircraft systems in the National Aviation Academy. The software equips students with critical competencies in numerical modelling, engineering optimization and is aligned with modern aerospace technologies. He emphasized that the key areas where artificial intelligence is integrated into Ansys solutions, such as competencies enhance innovation capacity and digital engineering for next-generation, sustainable and high-performance aviation technologies. He added that the use of Ansys technologies is expanding digital modelling capabilities within the Academy and supports the training of highly qualified engineering specialists.

The audience followed the presentations with great interest, actively engaging with the speakers and the topics discussed. Participants particularly noted the practical relevance of the technologies presented and their potential application across Azerbaijan’s key industries.

The conference brought together representatives of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Embassy of the United States of America in Azerbaijan, Sumgait Technologies Park, COPAT, the National Aviation Academy, the State Agency for Architecture and Construction of Azerbaijan Republic, as well as other government institutions and industry organizations. Ashley Towers, Economic and Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan, wished the participants success and emphasized the importance of further strengthening business and economic cooperation between the United States and Azerbaijan.

The conference concluded with a question-and-answer session featuring representatives from AZEL Systems, Ansys, and other invited guests, providing participants with an opportunity to have a further exchange of insights. The event reaffirmed the growing importance of digital engineering and simulation technologies in supporting sustainable industrial development in Azerbaijan.
