Amman, January 23 (AZERTAC). “Azerbaijan and Jordan today enjoy development of relationship. Cooperation between the two nations has reached a level of strategic partnership,” said Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Amman Sabir Agabayov in an interview to AZERTAC`s special correspondent.
“The two countries have expanded the bilateral ties in last years. Both sides effectively executed intergovernmental agreements covering various spheres, including politics, economy, culture, transport, information and communication technologies, as well as international cooperation. There are about 40 intergovernmental agreements regarding almost all areas.”
The diplomat underlined that personal relations between President Ilham Aliyev and His Majesty King Abdullah II gave a strong push to the bilateral ties. Agayev said relations between the heads of states help further deepen and bolster cooperation between the two nations.
The Ambassador noted the year 2013 saw the sides strengthen political and strategic relations. According to him, the two countries enjoyed successful cooperation in international organizations on vital regional and global affairs.
The diplomat said Jordan actively supported Azerbaijan`s bid for the UN Security Council membership in 2012. Agayev also reminded Azerbaijan`s backing nomination of Jordan in 2014 elections to the organization.
The diplomat praised a resolution on the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide adopted by the Jordan Senate in 2013. The document condemns aggression against the Azerbaijani Muslim nation, gross violation of human rights, and calls on Armenia to fulfill resolutions of the UN Security Council demanding unconditional withdrawal of all its forces from the occupied lands of Azerbaijan.
“This step of Jordan is an affirmation of sincere partnership relations between our countries,” the diplomat stressed.
“The Jordanian Parliament is also expected to adopt a similar resolution.” The ambassador said Jordan has always supported Azerbaijan`s just stance over settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakg conflict.
