AZERBAIJAN - STRATEGIC PARTNER OF RUSSIA
“Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of Russia for the years to come. The established relations between the two countries, the atmosphere of trust and equity have justified themselves. The Azerbaijani leadership tries to continue the line of rapprochement with Russia”, the review on policy of the Russian Federation, prepared by MFA of Russia, notes.
As specified in the review, the “Trans-Caucasus region is of key importance in the sense of maintaining territorial integrity and national security of the Russian Federation. “The situation in region remains tense, and in regard to Georgia - dangerous. The “frozen” conflicts here are used by the non-region forces to strengthen their influence in region damaging our positions”, the document says.
“Against the background of the conflict with participation of Georgia, the Nagorno Karabakh conflict seems less sharp. Current line of action jointly with Washington and Paris in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group in support of direct talks between Baku and Yerevan - is presented as optimal” the MFA of Russia notes.
The relations between Russia and Armenia are of steady and ally character, the review marks. “It is our strategic partner in the Caucasus, and a part of integration kernel of the Commonwealth. We shall make efforts to weaken transport blockade of Armenia, build-up cooperation in energy sector, reach higher level of foreign policy coordination of the two countries in region, reinforce humanitarian assistance”, the document stresses.
