Azerbaijan as an element of pan-European security architecture
Baku, March 13, Tamilla Mammadova, AZERTAC
Azerbaijan is becoming an increasingly important element of the pan-European security and cooperation architecture due to its geographic location, energy resources, and role in ensuring regional stability, said Spanish expert and President of the Pan-European Union Carlos Uriarte Sánchez in the latest episode of the "Azerbaijan and the World" program broadcast on the AZERTAC website.
According to him, Azerbaijan occupies a strategic geopolitical position at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, serving as a bridge between the Caspian region, Central Asia, and European markets. With increased attention to the resilience of global supply chains, the development of the Middle Corridor, which contributes to strengthening economic connectivity between regions, is particularly important.
The expert also emphasized Azerbaijan's importance in European energy security. “Following the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war and the ensuing energy crisis, the country's role as a reliable supplier of natural gas has significantly increased,” he added.
According to him, stability in the South Caucasus is of direct importance to European interests, particularly in terms of protecting energy infrastructure, developing transport routes, and maintaining geopolitical balance in the wider region.
