AZERBAIJAN COMMUNITY IN USA ENTERS NEW YEAR WITH NEW PLANS
This year, the Azerbaijan Society of America, the first Diaspora organization of compatriots, created in the USA, will mark its 50th anniversary. On this occasion, according to a source in the Society, it is planning to organize a large-scale event at one of the central halls in New York in May. According to ASA President Mrs. Tomris Azeri, along with guests from all over the world, presence of US officials and members of the US Congress at the event is also expected. She said: “Even in those years when Azerbaijan was not independent, our society made efforts for the Americans of Azerbaijan origin to study and grow up on history and culture of their motherland. Today’s members of the Society represent the second and the third generation of Americans of Azerbaijan origin. The event we are going to hold will be officially recognized by the US Congress, as national flags of Azerbaijan will be flown on a number of buildings.”
Association of the Azerbaijan Culture “Ojag” functioning in the State of Virginia, Association of twin cities Houston-Baku, newly founded organization Azerbaijanians of Houston, the America-Azerbaijan Society of California and other Diaspora organizations are going to intensify their activities in an effort to strengthen ties between Azerbaijan communities and the United States Congress.
