AZERBAIJAN DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS WITH EU OFFICIALS IN BRUSSELS
Azerbaijan Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov visited the Belgian capital, Brussels, Tuesday, to meet with the top-ranking European Union officials, press service of the Foreign Ministry said.
Mr. Azimov attended a meeting of the EU Committee on Foreign Affairs and a joint EU-South Caucasus Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee meeting, where he informed the participants about Azerbaijan’s economy and foreign policy priorities, as well as security and political situation, energy security and conflicts in the South Caucasus region.
During his meeting with the management of the EU Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Azerbaijani diplomat stressed the importance of implementing the EU-Azerbaijan Action Plan within the European Neighborhood Policy.
Araz Azimov described Azerbaijan as a reliable partner in providing energy security in Europe, and stressed the necessity to enhance the trade, transport and customs cooperation among the EU member states.
The Committee’s officials said the EU is keen to develop its relationship with Azerbaijan, and stressed the importance of strengthening the bilateral cooperation to provide energy security and diversify energy resources in Europe.
The deputy Minister’s meeting with the officials of the EU Directorate-general of Energy and Transport discussed the process of implementing a memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU, as well as Azerbaijan’s role in delivering Caspian energy resources to Europe and creating energy infrastructure in the region.
Araz Azimov also met with top-ranked officials of the Council of the European Union to inform them about the security situation in the region and current talks regarding the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Council’s officials said the EU wants the dispute to be peacefully solved, and is ready to help Azerbaijan find the resolution.
Araz Azimov also gave a press conference at the EU Council’s press center to sum up his Brussels visit.
