Azerbaijan, EU explore current state and prospects of cooperation

Baku, April 1, AZERTAC
Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Simon Mordue, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Magdalena Grono, European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia.
The meeting focused on the current state and prospects for Azerbaijan-European Union (EU) cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The sides also deliberated on Azerbaijan-EU collaboration in key areas such as economy, trade, energy security, green energy, and humanitarian affairs. Highlighting major projects implemented at the initiative of Azerbaijan in the energy sector, which play a crucial role in Europe's energy supply and security, both sides stressed the importance of continuing cooperation not only in traditional energy sources but also in alternative energy.
Minister Bayramov provided an overview of the post-conflict situation in the region, including large-scale reconstruction and development works in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories and ongoing demining operations.
The sides also discussed cooperation with the EU in mine clearance and efforts to clarify the fate of missing persons.
According to Bayramov, while progress has been achieved in the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization and peace process, Armenia’s ongoing territorial claims against Azerbaijan enshrined in its Constitution, coupled with its rapid military buildup, pose a threat to the advancement of the peace agenda.
