Azerbaijan interior minister meets members of PACE mission
Baku, September 14 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Minister of Internal Affairs, colonel-general Ramil Usubov has met Thursday the British MP Robert Walter, who leads members of PACE pre-election mission to observe the presidential elections in Azerbaijan.
According to the press service of the Ministry, Usubov spoke of work done in protection of tranquility, and obligation of policemen during the election. He noted the Ministry of Internal Affairs has prepared special action plan to prevent irregularities during the pre-election period, organization of election in safe and democratic atmosphere, protection of candidates and provide citizens with ID cards.
The Minister said appeals on violation of human and civil rights and freedom are being operatively investigated by policemen.
During the last five years, 1407 policemen have been punished for violating human rights, including rough behavior, groundless arrest, illegal search and etc.
“Thanks to these actions, the number of complaints on policemen was decreased by 26%, as well as appeals on violation of human rights 45% and appeals to the Ombudsman`s Office for two times”, he added.
The meeting also discussed issues of mutual interest.
