Azerbaijan-Iran political consultations held in Baku
Baku, March 13 (AZERTAC). The political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Iran have today been held in Baku.
The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy FM Khalaf Khalafov and Iranian delegation by Deputy FM Ebrahim Rahimpour.
Khalafov stressed the importance of Rahimpour`s visit to Baku in terms of development of the Azerbaijan-Iran ties.
He said Azerbaijan attached great importance to relations with Iran, noting there was wide potential to expand the bilateral relations in trade, economic, transport, communication, energy, tourism and humanitarian fields.
The Deputy FM underlined the importance of organization of high-level visits between the two countries.
He stressed the importance of relations between the two countries in terms of stability and security in the region, and hailed the mutual activity within international organizations.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Khalafov said the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories, including 132km of the Azerbaijan-Iran state border by Armenian Armed Forces was the main obstacle to peace and security, sustainable economic development in the region.
Ebrahim Rahimpour said Azerbaijan was an important partner for Iran, adding his country is interested in developing cooperation with Azerbaijan on the regional and international level.
