AZERBAIJAN, LITHUANIA DISCUSS BILATERAL TIES
Azerbaijani Minister of Economic Development Heydar Babayev met with Chairman of Lithuanian Seimas Foreign Affairs Committee Justinas Karosas and his accompanying delegation to discuss bilateral relations.
During the meeting they touched upon Azerbaijan-Lithuania economic relations, ways of expanding cooperation among the two countries` businessmen, creation of Azerbaijan-Lithuania economic cooperation committee and Azerbaijan’s membership to the World Trade Organization.
The Azeri Minister informed the Lithuanian delegation about his country`s economy.
He noted Azerbaijan today plays a key role not only as a hydrocarbon-rich oil country, but also as a transit country.
Babayev said development of non-oil sector is one of Azerbaijan`s economic policy priorities.
He stressed the role of the Azerbaijan Investment Company in boosting non-oil sector in the country.
Justinas Karosas stressed the need to develop economic and trade ties between Lithuania and Azerbaijan.
Babayev noted Azerbaijan will try its best to enhance economic relations with Lithuania.
The Azeri Minister said there are favorable opportunities for Lithuanian companies to do business in various fields of economy, including agriculture, construction of hotels and recreation centers.
Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Lithuania Naira Shahtakhtinskaya and Lithuania’s ambassador in Azerbaijan Kestutis Kudzmamas were present at the meeting.
