Azerbaijan, Mexico discuss bilateral relations
Baku, January 14 (AZERTAC). First Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafet Asgarov has met President of Mexican Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Gabriela Cuevas Barron to discuss relations between the two countries.
Asgarov hailed Azerbaijan-Mexico cooperation, saying his country attaches a particular emphasis to enhancing it further.
He praised the Mexican Government`s support of Azerbaijan`s stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Asgarov expressed the readiness of Azerbaijan`s parliament to work with the Mexican legislative body to lay the required legal framework for expanding the relations between the two countries.
“Only five documents have been signed so far by the two countries, and the work is underway to sign another 26 documents.”
He hailed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation and Interparliamentary Dialogue between the Azerbaijani Parliament’s Committee on International Affairs and Interparliamentary Ties and Mexican Senate’s Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Asgarov highlighted Azerbaijan’s achievements, and provided an insight into the causes and consequence of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Fist Deputy Speaker of the Parliament noted that over one million people in Azerbaijan became refugees and IDPs as a result of the Armenian aggression. “The resolutions of the UN Security Council, the Council of Europe and other international organizations have not yet been implemented by Armenia.”
Cuevas Barron highlighted the importance of reciprocal visits and bilateral meetings in terms of expanding relations between the two countries.
She hailed Azerbaijan`s development as rapid, stressing the importance of learning the country’s experience.
Cuevas Barron also expressed hope that the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh dispute would soon be solved in compliance with of international legal norms.
