Azerbaijan participates in conference of International Association of Prosecutors
Baku, September 13 (AZERTAC). Justice Minister of Azerbaijan Fikrat Mammadov and his accompanying delegation including staffers of the Prosecutor General`s Office and Justice Ministry has participated in the 18th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors as well as the meetings of the organization`s Executive Committee and Senate held in Moscow.
Addressing the session of the senate, the Minister touched upon the role of the senate in solving important and complicated issues, improvement of the IAP`s activity. The participants of the session of the Executive Committee heard the Minister`s report relating organizational issues. They welcomed Azerbaijan`s recommendations to develop the organization.
The opening ceremony of the annual conference was addressed by Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka, President of the Association James Hamilton. The participants also heard the message of the Russian President Vladimir Putin and report of the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Yury Fedotov.
The conference, which brought together some 850 representatives of prosecution bodies, justice, law-enforcement bodies discussed rule of law, international cooperation, and fight against corruption.
Member of the Executive Committee, Director of Anti Corruption Department, Kamran Aliyev made a presentation on ‘Prosecution and fighting corruption’. He dwelled upon harsh combat against corruption in Azerbaijan, achievements including the Azerbaijan`s brand Asan service as a tool to prevent corruption.
The conference participants elected Gerhard Jarosch, Deputy Chief Prosecutor, Public Prosecution Office Vienna, Austria as the new President of the IAP. Kamran Aliyev was re-elected as the member of the Executive Committee.
On the sidelines of the conference, the delegation of Azerbaijan had a meeting with Prosecutor General of Russia. The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation and Azerbaijan`s contribution to the development of the Association.
There were also talks with heads of law-enforcement bodies from other countries, representatives of international organizations.
