AZERBAIJAN, RUSSIA: COOPERATION OF LAW-ENFORCERS STRENGTHENS
The same day, the Russian Minister met with Azerbaijani Interior Minister Ramil Usubov and exchanged views on combat against criminality, and discussed bilateral and multilateral state of the cooperation, joint efforts for public security and necessary measures for strengthening the activity against terrorism, threats and other dangers.
The ministers stressed the importance of improving the activity in combat against criminality in CIS states within the realization of conception of improving cooperation till 2010.
Ramil Usubov said Azerbaijan and Russia have historical relations and the cooperation between the law enforcement bodies is expanding. The Minister highly estimated the mutual measures taken for fighting transnational crimes, illegal turnover of weapons, radioactive substances, narcotics as well as human traffic and illegal migration.
Rashid Nurgaliyev said that as a result the cooperation of law enforcement bodies of the two countries, up to now, 58 Azerbaijani citizens committed crimes in Azerbaijan and hiding in Russia were handed over to their country last year.
The Russian minister stressed the importance of combat against criminality in border regions. Nurgaliyev said he had met with Azerbaijani cadets studying in Russian Police Academy and believes that they will be professionals.
The meeting continued behind closed doors after the protocol on mutual relations of Azerbaijani and Russian Interior ministers in 2007-2008, a joint statement and the protocol on the partnership between Azerbaijani Interior Troops Main Department and Russian Interior Troops Central Headquarters were signed.
Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Azerbaijan took part at the meeting.
