AZERBAIJAN, USA: COOPERATION OF STRATEGIC CHARACTER
Having welcomed the visitor, Minister of Defense has emphasized, that cooperation between Azerbaijan and the USA, including in military sphere, is strategic character, has noted, that the USA completely support Azerbaijan in realization of large economic projects and in the question of transportation of power resources to Europe.
Colonel-general S. Abiyev has informed the visitor that on the Azerbaijan lands occupied by Armenia, a plenty of weapon and ammunition is saved up, have training preparation terrorist groups, narcotic substances are raised and transported. He has told: “The USA which heads the international antiterrorist coalition, should tell the resolute word in this occasion. The Azerbaijan Republic steadily develops, strengthens its independence, integrates into the European structures of safety, the actively participates in the PfP program of the NATO and continues cooperation with the USA”.
Having thanked colonel-general S. Abiyev for reception, general R. Foglesong has expressed satisfaction with the first visit to Azerbaijan. He has told: “Azerbaijan, shoulder-to-shoulder with the USA conducts struggle against the international terrorism. I thank you for it”.
Speaking on the purpose of the visit, general R. Foglesong has noted: “I wish to familiarize with your air forces directly. It is convinced, that after my visit, cooperation between the military-air forces of the USA and Azerbaijan will even more active.
Then, the visitor had exchange of views on relations of the USA – Azerbaijan and NATO – Azerbaijan.
Colonel-general S. Abiyev has noted, that Azerbaijan aspires to close cooperation between armed forces of two states. He has told: “We support intensive cooperation”.
Having touched ways of settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, S. Abiyev has told: “Co-chairmen of the Minsk group of OSCE operate irresolutely in the said question, the USA also holds a waiting position … who is one of the co-chairmen of the Minsk Group of OSCE. With feeling of regret we mark, that the USA are going to assist Azerbaijan and Armenia in the identical size. Even wants to render separatists of Nagorny Karabakh preparing terrorists, the assistance of 5 million dollars. We are told: solve the problem yourselves and come to consent. However, it is difficult to find common language with a state - aggressor. If the international public and the USA will resolutely state that Armenia is the state - aggressor, occupying the Azerbaijan lands then the said problem will find its resolution more likely.
Azerbaijan will not agree to give to the enemy a span of the land. Azerbaijan negotiates with Armenia so that it has released the occupied territories. This process continues 10 years. But once all will end and Azerbaijan people will release the lands”.
Having noted, that the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict renders negative influence on military-political conditions in region of Southern Caucasus, Minister of Defense has told: “All conflicts in region have begun after the Nagorny Karabakh problem – after the hen aggressive separatist movement. These conflicts are connected to the event in Nagorny Karabakh. If the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict will be settled, also other conflicts will find solution. To whom it is favorable insolvency of the said conflicts? It is certainly, to the forces, aspiring to prevent establishment and strengthening of relations between Azerbaijan and the USA. And they try to reach this purpose by means of aggressive Armenia”.
General R. Foglesong further has noted: “I am informed on presence in region of the Southern Caucasus of the unsolved and confusing problems. But I wish, that in settlement of the conflict Azerbaijan adhered to only peace way. He has told: “The USA and the NATO are going to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of safety. For this purpose, the basis has been already created. The Azerbaijan soldiers and officers show high samples of military service in struggle against the international terrorism. In this connection, I congratulate Azerbaijan people ”.
Then, the sides had exchange of opinions on some questions concerning national interests of Azerbaijan and the USA.
At the meeting participating was the charge d'affaires of the USA in Azerbaijan Jason Haylen.
