Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan discuss military cooperation
Baku, January 28 (AZERTAC). Uzbekistan`s First Deputy Defense Minister, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major-General Shavkat Normatov has visited Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry to discuss military cooperation between the two countries.
Normatov first met Chief of General Staff of Azerbaijan`s Armed Forces and Deputy Minister of Defense, Colonel General Najmaddin Sadigov.
The defense ministries of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan had an expanded meeting, which saw them explore ways of developing the bilateral military cooperation and discuss regional security affairs.
The Uzbek Deputy Defense Minister then met Azerbaijan`s Defense Minister, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov.
The Azerbaijani Minister said cooperation between the two countries was based on friendly relations.
On military-political situation in the region, Mr. Hasanov said Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was a main threat to the regional stability, and stressed the importance of solving the conflict in compliance with the international law and UN Security Council`s resolutions.
Shavkat Normatov described relations between the two countries as fraternal. He also said both countries were important partners.
Chief of General Staff of Azerbaijan`s Armed Forces and Deputy Minister of Defense Najmaddin Sadigov, Chief of Central Department for Armament of the Ministry of Defense of Uzbekistan Atabek Ibadullayev, Uzbek Ambassador to Azerbaijan Sherzod Fayziyev were also present at the meeting.
