Azerbaijan, Vietnam discuss bilateral cooperation
Baku, April 11 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s deputy foreign minister Khalaf Khalafov has met a Vietnamese delegation led by deputy foreign minister Nguyen Phuong Nga.
They discussed prospects for development of relations between the two countries.
The Vietnamese deputy foreign minister spoke of the history of relationship between Azerbaijan and Vietnam. He said Azerbaijan-Vietnam relations were established during the USSR. Nguyen Phuong Nga said more than thousand students studied in Azerbaijan`s various higher education institutions. He praised the ongoing development process in Azerbaijan.
Khalafov, in turn, briefed the Vietnamese delegation on the accomplishments gained in Azerbaijan in various spheres. He said Azerbaijan attaches great importance to development of relationship with Vietnam. “Azerbaijan`s economy accounts for 80 percent of the economy of South Caucasus.”
The Azerbaijani deputy foreign minister stressed the importance of high-level reciprocal visits. Khalafov noted trade turnover between the two coutnries falls short of both countries` potential. He added the two countries enjoy great potential to expand cooperation in industry, energy, tourism and agriculture. Khalafov also praised cooperation between Azerbaijan State Oil Company and PetroVietnam.
The discussions also revolved around expansion of cooperation within the UN and other international organizations.
