Azerbaijani, Chinese FMs meet in Beijing
Beijing, July 1 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani minister of foreign affairs Elmar Mammadyarov has met Chinese counterpart Wang Yi as part of his visit to Beijing.
Recalling Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev`s meeting with chairman of the People`s Republic of China Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 4th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in May, 2014, Wang Yi said the heads of two states praised the bilateral relations and determined the future prospects for development of the cooperation.
He also hailed Azerbaijani FM`s official visit to China as a significant step in the implementation of the deals agreed by the heads of state.
Elmar Mammadyarov said President Ilham Aliyev`s visit to China this May contributed to the development of the bilateral relations between the two countries. Saying Azerbaijan`s relations with foreign countries are based on the principles of mutual respect and equality, Mammadyarov noted that Azerbaijan was interested in the development of the political, economic-trade and humanitarian ties, as well as interparliamentary relations with China. He hailed the two countries` cooperation and mutual support within international organizations.
Mammadyarov also spoke about the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM) project.
The Azerbaijani FM also briefed Wang Yi on the current state of the peace talks to settle the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He said for the settlement of the conflict first the Armenian armed forces had to withdraw from the occupied lands of Azerbaijan, adding Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity must be restored.
Wang Yi said China supported Azerbaijan`s position on the settlement of the conflict and the dispute should be solved in accordance with the principles of international law and UN resolutions.
Mammadyarov invited his Chinese counterpart to Azerbaijan.
