Azerbaijani FM meets Botswana counterpart
Baku, February 26 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov has met Botswana Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Phandu Skelemani.
They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, Azerbaijan`s role in the region, prospects for the cooperation within international organizations, as well as expansion of the ties in the fields of economy, culture and energy.
Mammadyarov briefed his Botswana counterpart on the history of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, resolutions of the UN and other international organizations on supporting Azerbaijan`s just position, as well as ongoing negotiations to solve the conflict.
Skelemani described the Azerbaijani FM`s visit to Botswana as “an important event” in terms of boosting relations between the two countries.
He also proposed carrying out reciprocal visits and organizing various events for development of the Azerbaijan-Botswana cooperation.
Mammadyarov said during its non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council in 2012-2013, Azerbaijan played an active role in making decisions to solve several issues of particularly importance to the African countries, including conflict settlement.
He invited Botswana FM Skelemani to visit Azerbaijan.
Skelemani accepted the invitation, and stressed the importance of reciprocal visits in terms of developing relationship between the two countries.
