AZERBAIJANI FM MEETS WITH JORDANIAN COUNTERPART
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, who is visiting Jordan, met Monday with his counterpart Abd-al-Ilah al-Khatib to discuss the bilateral political, economic and humanitarian relations between the two countries.
Mr. Mammadyarov said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s forthcoming visit to Jordan will strengthen the bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and Jordan.
The Azerbaijan FM also recalled last year visits by Jordanian King Abdullah II and Prime Minister Marouf al-Bakhit to Baku, adding these visits marked a new stage in the development of the Azerbaijan-Jordan relations.
Elmar Mammadyarov expressed his gratitude to Jordan’s government for supporting Azerbaijan’s stance on its conflict with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh.
Jordanian FM Abd-al-Ilah al-Khatib said his country wants the dispute to be peacefully solved, stressing Jordan will continue supporting Azerbaijan’s position at all levels.
Both ministers stressed the fact Jordan will open its embassy in Baku next month, will give the impetus to further enhancement of the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The meeting ended with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Azerbaijani and Jordanian foreign ministers.

Later the same day, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister met with Jordan’s Prime Minister Marouf al-Bakhit.
Elmar Mammadyarov stressed the importance of boosting the Azerbaijan-Jordan ties in the fields of economy, trade, tourism and health.
The Azerbaijani Minister informed the Jordanian Premier about the current peace talks over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Marouf al-Bakhit said the mutual visits help to strengthen the relations between Jordan and Azerbaijan.
The Premier stressed his country will always support Azerbaijan’s just stance, and continue providing humanitarian assistance to Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced people.

Azerbaijan FM also discussed the bilateral interparliamentary ties between Azerbaijan and Jordan with President of the Jordanian Senate Zeid Rifai.

Elmar Mammadyarov also met with Mayor of Amman Omar AlMaani.
The Azerbaijani FM informed the Amman Mayor about the improvement work done to make Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, more beautiful.
The two officials also exchanged views on twinning of Baku and Amman.
