Azerbaijani minister of internal affairs meets German ambassador
Baku, December 11 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani minister of internal affairs, Colonel-General Ramil Usubov has met newly appointed German ambassador to Baku Heidrun Tempel.
The minister congratulated the diplomat on her appointment and wished every success.
Usubov said ministries of the two countries cooperate both bilaterally and within International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol). The minister recalled his participation in the 7th Berlin Security Conference in early 2008. Usubov said during his visit to Germany, the ministries of the two countries signed a Joint Statement of Intent to increase efficiency of the bilateral ties. Usubov said his ministry was interested in further developing cooperation.
The Azerbaijani minister pointed out that the two countries enjoyed good level of cooperation in international organizations, including the OSCE, the United Nations, the Council of Europe. Usubov said his country took the course of integration to Europe, and adopted new laws basing on democratic principles, regulating activities of police, strengthening human rights and freedoms. The Minister added that experts of international organizations and some developed countries, including Germany played a role in this process.
Usubov noted that German experts closely participated in workshops and trainings for police personnel to increase their professional level. The minister reminded training on the theme of “Police activities in preventing civil unrest” held in Azerbaijan.
Usubov added that employees of the ministry take part in forums and seminars organized by the Council of Europe for effective application of advanced experience.
The minister also briefed the ambassador on main functions and tasks of the ministry, as well as a criminogenic situation in the country.
Usubov spoke of the achievements in fighting against crime, providing stability and law and order.
The ambassador, in turn, said providing stability and security was a matter of priority for any country. She praised activities of Azerbaijani police in this regard. Tempel stressed the importance of observing human rights and ensuring the supremacy of law.
