Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker meets Kyrgyz counterpart
Baku, 11 June (AZERTAC). Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov has today met a delegation led by Asilbek Jeenbekov, chairman of the Jokorgu Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan.
The discussions focused on preparations for the 5th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking Countries (TURKPA) and development of interparliamentary ties.
Asadov stressed the importance of such meetings being held on the sidelines of events of TURKPA, saying they serve development of relations.
According to the Milli Majlis speaker, “Azerbaijan attaches great importance to deepening friendly relations between our peoples, which have historical roots”. He also underscored the role of presidents of the two countries in expansion of the bilateral ties. “Development of interstate relations create solid basis for future cooperation,” Asadov added.
The speaker also stressed the necessity of expansion of bilateral economic cooperation.
Asadov pointed out a working group on Azerbaijan-Kyrgyzstan interparliamentary ties operates in Milli Majlis. He added such a group should be established in the Kyrgyz legislative body. The speaker also spoke of cooperation between parliamentarians in international organizations.
Asadov said the 5th plenary session of TURKPA to be held in Baku would contribute to the unity of the Turkic world.
Asilbek Jeenbekov, in turn, said Kyrgyzstan was interested in development of cooperation with Azerbaijan in a variety of fields.
