Azerbaijani parliamentarians attend IPA CIS Council meeting in Saint Petersburg
Baku, November 29 (AZERTAC). An Azerbaijani parliamentarian delegation led by Speaker Ogtay Asadov has attended the Council meeting and 39th Plenary Session of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in St. Petersburg, Russia.
On the sidelines of the events, Asadov met chairman of the Russian State Duma Sergey Naryshkin, Chair of the Council of CIS PA and the Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko, Chair of Kazakhstan Senate Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Chairman of this country`s Parliamentary Assembly Nurlan Nigmatulin.
The meetings saw discussions on a number of issues, including interparliamentary cooperation, and mutual activities in international organizations.
Heads of the parliaments praised ongoing development processes in Azerbaijan. They also hailed presidential elections held on October 9, and conveyed their congratulations to President Ilham Aliyev on his reelection by majority of votes.
On November 28, members of the Azerbaijani delegation attended the session of CIS PA Council. The agenda of the Council included various issues, including organizing observation in elections in CIS countries. The final document developed by the CIS PA observation mission hailed presidential elections in Azerbaijan. The document notes that Azerbaijani presidential elections were held in transparent, fair and democratic atmosphere. Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Asadov thanked the CIS PA observation mission for objectively fulfilling their activities.
The Azerbaijani delegation included MPs Sevinj Fataliyeva, Sadaget Valiyeva, Mirkazim Kazimov, Aslan Jafarov, Haji Salayev, head of Parliament`s Administration Safa Mirzayev and other officials.
