Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev: Our words never differ from our actions

Baku, July 12 (AZERTAC). Italian “IL GIORNALE” newspaper has published an article highlighting Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev`s speeches at the 23rd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Strasbourg and the 23rd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Baku. The article starts with the President`s quote: “Our words never differ from our actions.”

The article notes that Azerbaijan was involved in two high-profile events in the last week of the past month - the Summer Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of the Europe in Strasbourg and the Baku-hosted 23rd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, with President Ilham Aliyev addressing both events. “These two events once again proved the importance of Azerbaijan’s participation in Europe’s political and economic life,” the newspaper says.

The article quotes President Ilham Aliyev as saying: “Azerbaijan is now recognized as a reliable partner, which our friendly countries, partners can trust” at the 23rd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. “This is very important because trust is something, which you have to build every day. And only one mistake, wrong step can ruin this trust. Therefore active bilateral relations with most of the members of the international community, particularly European countries, are one of our priorities. This is also applied to our relations with countries of other continents.”

The article points out that as Azerbaijan will ensure the energy security of Europe through the TAP project, hailing this as a very important message to Europe.

The article says Azerbaijan is the first trade partner of Italy and supplies 16 per cent of the county’s oil demand. The newspaper notes that both in Strasbourg and Baku, the Azerbaijani President highlighted the country`s achievements, problems and future plans. “Implementing political and economic reforms at the same time allowed us to avoid major complications, create a stable country, and achieve sustainable development,” the article quotes the head of state as saying.

The article says Azerbaijan’s economy was praised as stabile by the main ranking agencies in 2014 although strong economic crisis destroyed the international market and despite of the fact that 20 per cent of the country`s lands have been under occupation of Armenia for 20 years.

The article also notes that President Ilham Aliyev called on international organizations, stressing the importance of uniting the criteria provided for in the international law. The newspapers quotes the Azerbaijani President: “We see that some resolutions of the United Nations Security Council are implemented within hours, while some resolutions remain on paper for 20 years as in the case with Azerbaijan.”

According to the article, the President said that the four resolutions of the UN Security Council demanding immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian forces from the occupied territories remain unfulfilled, that Armenia continued to disregard the resolutions of the OSCE, European Parliament, Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Non-Alignment Movement, and even the OSCE Minsk Group, co-chaired by France, Russia and the USA, noting that Armenia violates all international norms and puts the credibility of these international organizations at risk.

The newspaper also quotes the Azerbaijani President as saying: “One million Azerbaijanis became refugees and IDPs on their own land. We were subjected to ethnic cleansing. Armenians committed genocide against Azerbaijanis in the city of Khojaly, genocide which is recognized already by 10 countries of the world. International law norms are violated.”
