Azerbaijani Speaker meets his Turkish counterpart
Baku, June 12 (AZERTAC). Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov met Thursday with a Turkish delegation led by Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, chairman-in-office of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkish-Speaking countries (TurkPA) Cemil Cicek to discuss Azerbaijan-Turkey and Azerbaijan-TurkPA relations.
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov said that TurkPA is a very influential organization in the region. Azerbaijan`s relations with this organization have always been good. He found the need to enhance the TurkPA`s influence in the international arena.
On the Azerbaijan-Turkey relations, Ogtay Asadov underlined that both nations cherish brotherly relations. Economic, political, cultural, educational ties have reached new heights thanks to the friendship between the two countries.
The Speaker noted that the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey exceeded USD 2 billion, saying there is good potential for increasing it. Asadov pointed out that investments worth USD 20 bln worth are expected to be injected into the Turkish economy during 5-6 years.
Speaker Asadov touched upon the role of Azerbaijan in the European energy security.
For his part, Cemil Cicek said Azerbaijan and Turkey have deeply-rooted historical ties, shared language, culture. According to him, friendship, fraternity and respect between the two countries boost political, economic, cultural ties. He thanked leadership and people of Azerbaijan for the sensitive approach to the Soma mine explosion.
Cicek underlined that Azerbaijan has grown into the important country for both region and Europe. According to him, the two countries have always supported each other.
