Azerbaijani spring in Gothenburg: National customs and traditions showcased in Sweden

A festive event titled “Azerbaijani Spring in Gothenburg, Sweden – Customs and Traditions” was held in the Swedish city of Gothenburg with the support of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan and organized by the Azerbaijan Garabagh Center and the Coordination Council of Azerbaijanis in Sweden.
Azerbaijanis living in various cities across Sweden participated in the event.
The event opened with a welcome speech by Ulviyya Najafova, Coordinator of the Coordination Council of Azerbaijanis in Sweden for Gothenburg and Head of the Azerbaijan Garabagh Center. She greeted the guests, congratulated them on the holiday, and provided information about Novruz and the arrival of spring.
The event was then officially declared open with a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, followed by the playing of the national anthem.
Azerbaijani Diaspora Youth actively participated in the event. Additionally, Saadat Karimi, Chairperson of the “Gobustan” Society of Azerbaijani Intellectuals, attended the celebration and delivered a speech, congratulating the guests on the occasion.
As part of the program, the rich customs and traditions of Novruz were showcased. Various entertaining games were organized for participants, including a traditional khoncha (Novruz tray) competition and the characteristic egg-cracking game of Novruz. Winners of the competitions were awarded prizes.
In conclusion, it was noted that such events are of great importance for preserving the national and spiritual values of Azerbaijanis living abroad, passing them on to future generations, and strengthening unity and solidarity within the community.
