Azerbaijan’s Aquaculture experience presented at FAO

The Expert Workshop “Turning guidance into action: regional insights for implementing the Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture” was held at the headquarters of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome.
The event was dedicated to developing practical implementation mechanisms at the national level for the "Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture" (GSA), adopted by the FAO in 2024.
The workshop included discussions on the implementation of the GSA across governance and planning, sustainable resource use, social responsibility, and value chains, as well as the development of tools to support decision-making.
Jeyhun Aliyev, Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Center under the Ministry of Agriculture, provided information on the institutional reforms implemented in Azerbaijan’s fisheries and aquaculture sector. He highlighted the application of science-based management and monitoring mechanisms, as well as the work being done to protect and increase aquatic bioresources. He noted that the sector's development in Azerbaijan is based on an ecosystem-based approach, with the application of modern technologies being a priority.
