AZERBAIJAN’s MINISTER OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MEETS IMF DELEGATION
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economic Development Heydar Babayev met with a delegation of International Monetary Fund (IMF) lead by Valeria Fichera.
The meeting discussed various issues, including Azerbaijan`s macroeconomic development in 2007 and prospects for 2008, public investments, process of gaining membership of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the Competition Code.
Babayev spoke about current socio-economic situation in Azerbaijan and economic projects underway in the country.
He added it is forecasted that in 2008, the country`s public investments will be more than 2,8bln AZN.
The minister said the highest priorities in the state investment program are energy, education, culture, sport and agriculture.
The level of inflation in Azerbaijan was also discussed during the meeting, and Babayev stressed the government and the National Bank are working together to keep the inflation under control.
Valeria Fichera praised dynamic economic development in Azerbaijan.
Speaking of his country`s moves towards joining the WTO, Babayev noted Azerbaijan has been holding negotiations with various countries and international organizations.
