Baku-Astrakhan friendship monument opened in Azerbaijan`s capital
Baku, November 27 (AZERTAC). An opening ceremony of Baku-Astrakhan friendship monument has been held in Baku.
Head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration`s Social and Political Affairs Department Ali Hasanov, Russian ambassador Vladimir Dorokhin and other officials took part in the opening ceremony of the monument, which had been erected on the initiative of Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation.
Addressing the event, Baku Mayor Hajibala Abutalibov said friendship ties between Azerbaijan and Russia had been developing. He said relations between Azerbaijan and Astrakhan region play an important role in this regard.
Abutalibov pointed out that Azerbaijan and Astrakhan region realized key projects. He reminded monument to national leader Heydar Aliyev in Astrakhan city, capital repair of the park and the secondary school named after the national leader, construction of Azerbaijan-Russia Friendship Bridge for foot-passengers.
Abutalibov said opening of Baku-Astrakhan friendship monument was a step towards strengthening relations of Azerbaijan with Russia, especially with Astrakhan. He thanked Governor of Astrakhan Oblast Alexander Zhilkin for presenting the monument to Baku residences.
The governor, in his turn, praised the monument as a manifestation of sincere friendship ties between the two nations. He thanked the Azerbaijani President`s Administration and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for implementing projects in the city of Astrakhan. Zhilkin said a monument to Prince Vladimir erected in Astrakhan by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation would be opened late December, this year.
Trees were planted in the park as a symbol of friendship.
