BAKU HOSTS AIBA ANNUAL FORUM
Baku, December 11 (AZERTAC). The International Boxing Association, or AIBA, has held its Annual Forum in Azerbaijan`s capital, bringing together over 100 representatives from the organization`s bodies.
The forum has been held on the sidelines of the AIBA President`s Cup tournament.
The event was opened by President of Azerbaijan`s Boxing Federation, Kamaladdin Heydarov, who stressed the importance of holding the forum in Baku.
“It is of crucial significance for us that members of the AIBA family have gathered in the Azeri capital to discuss the future of boxing."
Heydarov praised the Azerbaijani President`s "attention” towards developing sports in the country.
"President Ilham Aliyev places a particular emphasis on developing all kinds of sport in the country. And this is what brought Azerbaijan a reputation of a sporting country on the global scale."
President of International Boxing Association, Ching-Kuo Wu, praised the organization of the AIBA President`s Cup tournament and the forum.
"I thank the Azeri government for the well-organized events," he said.
The AIBA chief also touched upon his meeting with the Azerbaijani leader, saying "I once again witnessed how much importance he attached to developing boxing in the country".
The forum mainly focused on how to boost women boxing.
The event was followed by a ceremony to present the AIBA Best of the Year Awards 2009.
Italian Domenico Valentino was named the Best Boxer of the Year, while Russia`s Sergey Sobylinski became the Best Junior Boxer of the Year.
Russian Nikolay Khromov was called the Best Coach of the Year.
