BAKU HOSTS AZERBAIJAN-BELARUS BUSINESS FORUM
Azerbaijan-Belarus Business Forum organized by Azerbaijan Investment and Export Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) today has taken place in Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Addressing the meeting, Azeri Deputy Minister of Economic Development Niyazi Safarov told of successful development of socio-economic area in the country. Mr. Safarov underlined that currently Azerbaijan takes leading position in GDP growth. In 2006, GDP grew by 34,5%. Deputy Minister informed about the reforms being implemented in non-oil sector and agriculture area of the country. Mr. Safarov emphasized that official visit of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev to Belarus, in October 2006 gave an impetus to development of the economic cooperation between the two countries. He added that Azerbaijan is ready to all-round cooperation with Belarus.
Belarus First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Mrs. Nadezhda Kotkovets told of reforms being implemented in agriculture area of the country. Mrs. Kotkovets noted that it is necessary to joint efforts to even more expand the relations between the two countries.
Belarus Ambassador to Azerbaijan Nikolay Pastkevich underlined that documents signed during the official visits of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev to Belarus, in October 2006 and President Alexander Lukashenko to Azerbaijan, in May 2007 and participation of over 50 Belarus companies at Baku national exhibition played an important role in enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
Head of AZPROMO Emil Majidov and Chairman of “Belkoopsoyuz” Board of Directors Ivan Makovski told of investment milieu and business opportunities of the two countries.
The forum rounded off with the bilateral meetings of Azerbaijan and Belarus businessmen.
