Berlin hosts event marking 530th anniversary of prominent Azerbaijani poet Mahammad Fuzuli

The Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Berlin, Germany, hosted an event titled “Poet in my heart”, marking the 530th birth anniversary of the outstanding Azerbaijani poet and thinker Mahammad Fuzuli.
The event, organized as part of the implementation of the Order on the “Celebration of the 530th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Mahammad Fuzuli” signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, brought together members of the German Federal Foreign Office and other governmental bodies, ambassadors, scientific and cultural figures, and members of the Azerbaijani, Turkish and other friendly communities resided in Germany.
In his remarks, Nasimi Aghayev, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Germany, highlighted the contributions made by genius Mahammad Fuzuli to the Azerbaijani and world literature.
He also described Mahammad Fuzuli’s divan (collection of poems) written in Azerbaijani language as a bright sample of the classic medieval Azerbaijani literary language.
The diplomat also spoke about the “Leyli and Majnun” poem - a pearl of the Azerbaijani literature and a pinnacle of the prominent Azerbaijani poet’s creativity, which holds a special place in the literary landscape of the Muslim World. He also stressed that the opera, based on the eponymous poem by Mahammad Fuzuli, which was written by the genius Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibayli in 1908, considered the first opera not only in Azerbaijan, but also the entire Muslim East.
Moreover, on the Azerbaijani Embassy’s initiative, a stamp, marking the 530th anniversary of the renowned poet, was issued in Germany.
Dr. Michael Reinhard Hess, a renowned German orientalist emphasized that Mahammad Fuzuli’s works in Azerbaijani, Arabic and Farsi languages exerted a great influence on Azerbaijani and Middle-Eastern literature.
The event also featured a concert program, which was met with the rapturous applause from the audience.
