CIS Economic Council reviews key cooperation areas through 2030

The 110th session of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Moscow, with Azerbaijan represented by First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov.
The session was chaired by Hojamyrat Geldimyradov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. Heads of delegations from CIS member states and CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev also took part.
During the meeting held in a closed format, the heads of delegation exchanged views on pressing issues of economic cooperation within the Commonwealth and reviewed a number of documents.
Members of the Economic Council approved a draft decision of the CIS Council of Heads of State on conducting national population censuses in the 2030 round. The document provides for the censuses to be held as close to 2030 as possible, along with the preparation of a unified list of socio-economic and migration indicators to ensure comparability of results.
Participants reviewed a report on the activities of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications and the Coordination Council for Informatization for 2021–2025. During this period, work continued on developing information and telecommunications infrastructure, digitalization, information security, and the implementation of joint communications projects.
The Economic Council also approved an Action Plan for implementing the Conceptual Framework for CIS Cooperation in the Field of Labor Regulation for 2026–2030 and reviewed a report on civil law protection for victims of competition violations.
Particular attention was paid to macroeconomic indicators in CIS countries in 2025. According to preliminary estimates, the combined GDP of CIS member states grew by 2.1%. The total number of unemployed people fell by 9% compared to the previous year, standing at 3.6 million people, or 3.1% of the labor force.
Council members reviewed the results of the first phase of the CIS Economic Development Strategy through 2030, approved amendments to the mechanism for electronic tax information exchange between Commonwealth states, endorsed the first phase of the Main Directions for Cooperation in Forestry and the Timber Industry through 2035, and adopted recommendations on the mutual recognition of methods for detecting quarantine organisms in mutual trade.
The next session of the CIS Economic Council will be held on September 11, 2026, in Ashgabat.
