CIS Permanent Representatives Council held session in Minsk
Minsk, 23 January (AZERTAC). The capital of Belarus held the first meeting of the Council of Permanent Representatives of the Commonwealth, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk said.
The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev.
The Minsk summit of the Commonwealth in October last year decided that in 2014 the presidency of the organization will pass to Ukraine. The Council of Permanent Representatives will be headed by permanent representative of Ukraine Ivan Bunechko.
Ivan Bunechko said that some 37 events will be held in Ukraine in cooperation with the CIS Executive Committee. A number of meetings of the CIS supreme bodies are scheduled. A session of the CIS Council of Heads of Government will take place in Kyiv on 30 May. A session of the CIS Council of Heads of State and the CIS Ministerial Council is to be held in October.
Ivan Bunechko presented Ukraine’s CIS chairmanship concept and the action plan to implement it. The preamble to the concept reads that during its CIS chairmanship Ukraine will seek to promote the CIS and strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in line with national interests of every participating state
Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev noted that Ukraine’s CIS chairmanship plan features important and useful events. He emphasized that the CIS Executive Committee will provide any assistance needed.
The Council passed a plan of activities for 2014 and discussed the agenda of the regular session of the CIS Ministerial Council that is scheduled to take place in Moscow on 4 April.
