COE COMMITTEE OF REPRESENTATIVES MAKES STATEMENT ON REFERENDUM IN NAGORNO KARABAKH
Session participants discussed the act of separatists, noting that as a result of military aggression by Armenia, the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan has been violated and 20 percent of its territory occupied, and that conducting 10 December in Nagorno Karabakh the “referendum” has no any international legal validity and fully contradicts the norms and principles of international law.
Also was emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Azerbaijan Republic, GUAM, COE Secretary General Terry Davis, the Ministerial Committee of COE, the European Union have made statement related to this unlawfully conducted “referendum”. It was decided to make on behalf of the Committee of Representatives of the Council of Europe a statement on this illegal act.
The session, on behalf of the Chairman of the Committee, has accepted a statement, which emphasizes that the “referendum on constitution” conducted in Nagorno Karabakh has not been recognized. The Committee’s Chairman expressed concern in connection with such kind of “referendum”, noting that this does not serve the process of negotiations for peaceful settlement of conflict.
