CONSTRUCTION OF SHAMAKHY-GUBA HIGHWAY TO REDUCE DISTANCE TO RUSSIA
Construction of the Shamakhy-Guba highway will notably reduce distance from central regions of Azerbaijan to the Russian border, chief of the Transport Ministry’s Department of Transport Policy and Economy Sadraddin Mammadov announced.
According to him, the road stretching from Guba’s Gonagkend settlement will link central regions of Azerbaijan with Yalama. This road will allow getting Russia earlier. The distance from Aran region to Guba will be 155-160 km shorter. The road is thought to create favorable conditions for tourism development.
The project is being prepared by the Korean company. Discussions on the preliminary proposals are under way. After the final report is prepared, it will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers.
Authors of the project suggest that it should be a toll road. The company will operate the road after construction, and then, hand it over to Azerbaijan.
Construction of the toll road makes it necessary adopt a law on toll roads. Talks with respective government agencies have already begun.
