Danish publication highlights progress toward peace in the South Caucasus

The Danish publication “POV International” has published an article by Zaur Ahmadov, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark, highlighting progress toward peace in the South Caucasus.
Ambassador Zaur Ahmadov emphasized the historic significance of the Washington Summit held on August 8, 2025. In his article, Ambassador Ahmadov noted that during the summit, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and U.S. President Donald Trump signed a Joint Declaration concerning the meeting between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.
According to him, the Washington meeting has paved the way for a new political reality in the region.
“The sides have confirmed their readiness to sign and ratify a comprehensive peace agreement, which will require Armenia to amend its constitution and renounce territorial claims. Additionally, due to its loss of relevance, a decision has been made to formally close the OSCE Minsk Process,” Zaur Ahmadov underscored.
The diplomat mentioned that one of the most significant outcomes was the agreement to open transportation and communication links, including the establishment of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). The route will connect the mainland Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan through the territory of Armenia.
The Azerbaijani ambassador underlined that major companies from Denmark and across Europe, including Maersk have already expressed interest in the new route. According to him, the project holds particular significance in light of Denmark’s presidency of the European Union and the upcoming European Political Community Summit scheduled to take place in Copenhagen on October 2, 2025.
“The South Caucasus, in a stable and peaceful environment, will undoubtedly strengthen the European Union’s eastern neighbourhood,” the diplomat concluded.
