DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN MEETS UN SECRETARY-GENERAL’S SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE
Deputy Prime Minister of the Azerbaijan Republic, head of the State Committee on Refuges and IDPs Ali Hasanov on 2 April met with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons Walter Kalin, who is visiting the country now.
The Deputy Prime Minister informed in detail on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, its heavy consequences, stating that Azerbaijan adheres peaceful settlement of the conflict. He also updated on the measures taken for improvement of life conditions of the refugees and IDPs on the sideline of UN structures and other international organizations. Ali Hasanov especially gratefully recalled the guardianship and assistance of the international organizations rendered since 1994-1995 to the refugees noting that Azerbaijan would face humanitarian crisis without it.
The guest received full information on construction of refugee camps and removes of the displaced persons to the settlements, built on account of the State Oil Fund.
Walter Kalin expressed gratitude for information provided, noting that the t is very good that the Government of Azerbaijan could find means to improve life conditions of the refugees.
