Discussions on Baku European Olympics held
Baku, September 25 (AZERTAC). The French embassy to Azerbaijan has organized a seminar over the preparation for the 2015 European Olympics in Baku.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov provided information about the progress achieved in the build-up to the Olympic Games. According to him, Baku`s holding the European Olympic Games will enable Azerbaijan to host greater international competitions. It also inspires young people to quit their bad habits.
The Minister underlined that along with the new sport complexes, the existing ones, grounds and arenas will be also used in the European Olympics. Construction of the sport complexes began before Azerbaijan gained the right to host the Olympics.
The Minister pointed that temporary settlements are scheduled to be provided for the visitors during the games.
France`s ambassador Pascal Meunier said in his remarks that UEFA President Michel Platini is expected to attend the inauguration of the Olympic Stadium in Baku.
The diplomat expressed confidence that Baku will successfully host the European Olympics. He pointed out that Azerbaijan is the country keeping stability in the Caspian region.
The ambassador pointed to some outstanding issues that should be tackled too.
Chief Operating Officer for the European Olympics Jim Scherr noted that funds allocated from the state budget on organization of the games are spent effectively.
